Research Interests

I am interested in science and technology studies, social and critical theory, cultural sociology, sociology and philosohpy of science, and the public understanding of science and technology. A strong focus of my research is on the social framing and societal implications of (bio-)medical, genetic and neuroscientific research. I analyse these developments in a historically and philosophically informed perspective and am committed to international, interdisciplinary research. In this context, I try employ, combine and develop innovative qualitative methods, such as ethnographic field work, document and media analysis, interviews and focus groups. I am also interested in the tranformation of scientific knowledge from the context of discovery to other contexts and its consequences for both the scientific field and the knowledge acquirers. Furthermore, I aim at analysing the interrelation between science and society and at intregrating these anaylses in social theory.
